How to Draw A Rattlesnake. There are many additional kinds of snakes in nature, and while there is a wide range of venomous and harmless snakes, it’s generally a good idea not to mess with snakes.

This is especially true of the rattlesnake, as you certainly want to avoid being bitten by one of these types.
At the very least, they show the courtesy of using their tail rattles as a warning, and that rattling makes them visually distinctive. It can even be fun to learn how to draw a rattlesnake! Drawing animals can be challenging, but this tutorial should help.
How to Draw A Rattlesnake
Step 1
To begin this guide to drawing a rattlesnake, let’s start with the part of the snake you least want to meet in real life; the head.
This depiction of a rattlesnake we are working on is very detailed and realistic, which makes drawing more complicated but worth it. We’ll even take it slow to ensure we don’t miss you!
We will draw the rattlesnake’s head with slightly curved lines, and its mouth will be wide open to reveal those fearsome venom-filled teeth.
We’ll also use curved lines for the beginning of the snake’s body, which we’ll draw more of as we move through this guide.
Once you’ve drawn the head and added details like eyes and fangs, you’re ready for the next step.
Step 2
In this second phase of your rattlesnake drawing, we’ll draw more of the snake’s long body.
We will extend a few more curved lines from the snake’s neck that you started in part one to do this.
The body curves, extending down at a diagonal angle and then curving quite sharply to the right, as shown in the reference image.
That’s all there is to this step, so let’s move on to the next part when you’re ready!
Step 3
For this third step of our guide to drawing a rattlesnake, we’ll draw more of the long, coiled body.
In this step, we’ll use two more curved lines for the next section, which work together to curve the body toward the left side of the page.
Once we’ve drawn this section of the snake, the next step is for us to draw the iconic rattle and the rest of the outline.
Step 4
As mentioned in the previous part of your rattlesnake drawing, we will draw the rattle that gives this snake its name!
First, we’ll use more curved lines to show the snake’s tail curling back on itself. Once this section of the tail is drawn, let’s draw this famous rattle.
The rattle is drawn as layers of small, thin, flat shapes on top of each other. Each section of the toe gets a little thinner as you go up, making the rattle thinner overall.
The small end segment of the rattle can be drawn as a small rounded shape.
Step 5
You have completed the outline of the snake, and in this step of our how-to draw a rattlesnake guide, we will finish with some details about the snake’s body.
To do this, we created patterns on the snake’s body by drawing more angular lines than we used for the rest of the image. This creates a diamond pattern throughout the rattlesnake’s body.
Once you’ve drawn these details, you can add some of your own before proceeding! A great way to take this design further would be to add some background.
Step 6
We used darker shades of brown for the snake’s body and details to do this. For the mouth, too, we went in with a dark pink tint for the snake’s gums.
We chose these colors, so you can replicate them if you want a similar look for your image.
On the other hand, you should also use any of your favorite colors! You can also opt for a more stylistic image using lighter colors and artistic mediums.
